Between 1951 and 1952, Jackson Pollock created several works that employ dripped black enamel on blank canvas. The dripping in the majority of these works displays a sense of refined decorativeness, and these monochrome works evoke a sense of related avant garde calligraphers. Some motifs have only been partially abstracted, however, and the question of where the original form ends makes these works an extremely interesting facet of his career.
