A representative painter of the Venetian Renaissance, Veronese influenced Rubens, Tiepolo, and many other painters with his bright and lively colors and clear composition, which he learned from Raphael. In the center of this painting, produced while Veronese was still active in his birthplace of Verona, is the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. To their right is St. Catherine, known as the "bride of Christ".
