Since his debut novel in 1998, L’Eclipse, the major young writer Hirano Keiichiro has published several works based on his deep knowledge of Western culture. As well, through the use of letter spacing and margins, he has experimented with the visual elements in his books. This exhibition focuses on Hirano as guest curator, presenting his artistic vision through his selection of works drawn primarily from the NMWA collection.

The western art works selected by Hirano, on the theme Voices Calling from the Unusual, are a means of imbuing the exhibition with his personal artistic and visual sensibilities. Works depicting unusual scenes or scenes that speak of a fascination with unusual worlds are displayed alongside Hirano’s own explanations of the pieces, all with the aim of linking the visitor’s gaze with that of his own. Through this selection of art works we hope that visitors will come to a better appreciation of Hirano’s own sensibilities and sense new and fascinating elements in these works.

Lectures will be also held at a museum. Please visit each page for details
