Here, you can find gallery talk videos by NMWA curators. The nine short videos in “Curators’ Talks on the NMWA Collection, Part I” focus on nine works displayed in the NMWA Main Building, “Curators’ Talks on the NMWA Collection, Part II” presents nine works displayed in the NMWA New Wing. These videos are available in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean versions.

High-resolution, enlarged close-up images show painting and sculpture details and brushwork. You can enjoy looking at those details and listen to a curator give an approximately three-minute explanation of each art work’s highlights. You can also access our “Museum View” video, which provides a walk through the NMWA Main Building (UNESCO registered World Heritage Site) and exhibition galleries. Why not enjoy this great chance to experience the NMWA Main Building’s wonderful architectural space and displayed artworks from the comfort of your own home?

Art Card Sets

The NMWA lends and sells Art Card Sets which are a fun way to play and learn about art at the same time. These cards feature 65 works of art owned by five member museums of the National Art Museum (National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; National Crafts Museum; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; NMWA; and, the National Museum of Art, Osaka). The 13 works of art from each museum were selected on the basis of their ability to naturally engage children in a dialogue with the artwork. There are also six architecture cards, featuring the buildings of those five museums and the National Art Center. The art shown on the cards includes paintings, sculpture, prints, photographs, decorative arts, and architecture, from Japan and the West, and date from the medieval period through the present-day. An accompanying pamphlet explains lots of fun ways to play with the cards, and explanations of each artwork. We hope that these cards will be used to introduce art appreciation methods and content both in ordinary classroom settings, and as preparation for visits to art museums.
